Endodontics

Endodontics refers to the interior (endo) of the teeth (tics). Dental pulp is the tissue found inside of the teeth, and is composed of nerves, blood vessels and specialized cells (among others). Its main function is to form the tooth and, on appeal, receive external stimuli. Endodontics, and dental specialty is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp and surrounding tissues affected by it.
Causes that may require endodontic:

  • Deep dental caries
  • Trauma or shock
  • If the tooth has been manipulated in various dental procedures
  • When there is an irreversible pulp tissue inflammation (pulpitis)
  • When there is necrosis (death) of the pulp tissue..
